The Radyr Weir hydropower scheme, designed by Renewables First and owned by Cardiff City Council, was recently featured in an article in the British Hydropower Association’s (BHA) publication called Spotlight.
The Radyr Weir hydropower scheme comprises a twin Archimedes screw installation, with a total generating capacity just shy of 400 kW. Located on the River Taff, the scheme was installed in the late autumn of 2015. It now provides a feature of interest for passing pedestrians and cyclists, as well as supplying significant amounts of power to the local electricity grid and income for Cardiff City Council.
