In July of 2015, having grown out of our old premises, Renewables First moved the base of its operations to somewhere more spacious and – given that we were previously located in a frost hollow in a steep sided river valley – somewhere warmer! The move involved upping sticks and moving downstream from one historic mill building on the River Frome to another roughly two-thirds of a mile away.
But the move was well worth it. We are now located within historic Brimscombe Mill, now a fully refurbished building equipped with large office spaces. Our new office overlooks the mill pond and remaining sluice gates, itself fed by the River Frome. The move has enabled us as a rapidly growing company to expand and resource ourselves for the future.
Brimscombe Mill itself is also located on the site of Brimscombe Port, once a thriving industrial link on the Thames and Severn Canal. There are long-term plans to regenerate the Port, as part of a broader plan to re-open sections of the Thames and Severn Canal. The move is also fitting in that we are now located in a building that has historically used the power of water to do work, although all that now remains of this is the mill pond and sluice gates.
