The Domestic RHI is suitable for single residential properties, as evidence by the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). If your outbuilding is a self-contained residential property, it may be eligible for its own domestic EPC and therefore would fall under the Domestic RHI. Heat used for a home office as part of a residential property is eligible for the Domestic RHI.
The Non-Domestic RHI is suitable for multiple residential properties, or properties where the predominant heat usage is non-domestic. Properties where business rates are payable typically fall under the Non-Domestic RHI. If the majority of the heat supplied to your outbuilding is for eligible commercial purposes, it should fall under the Non-Domestic RHI.
